Everyday Heroes

heres the poem that wrote for the writing contest. tell me what you think
The pager tone goes off, the race is on
dispatch calls off the info over the radio
adrenaline begins to course through the veins
millions of scenarios a set off in their head
anticpation of what lies before them
the equipment is checked, the rig is ready
racing down the streets, sirens wailing
no idea whats going to happen
they arrive on scene the families waiting
all their training, all the practice
nows the time to put it to use
show them care, compassion, and trust
no one knows just what its like
to revive someone, to bring back life
its all or nothing, you give them breath
there are not your average joes
but more your life saving heros
they risk their lives to save yours
check things twice just to make sure
bandage wounds, splint broken bones
first to the rescue in hazardous zones
a medics life in always on call
from gunshot wounds to a simple fall
they stand by ready and willing
a simple code they are fulfilling
ensure the safety of others
friends family, sisters and brothers
from helping someone whos starting to seize
to provding comfort or pushing IV's
heart attacks to car crashes
pregnancies to small rashes
strokes to allergic reactions
when the pager goes off, they spring into action
ready and willing to do what it takes
no matter the consequences or how high the stakes
at the end of the day, they're ready to rest
they are not just good they are the best
